Did you know that the second most quoted book (second to the Good Book, of course) is Margaret Mitchell’s Gone with the Wind? Me neither. But I learned that from author Ellen F. Brown last Friday at Over the Moon bookstore in Crozet, Virginia. Ellen, with John Wiley, Jr., recently published Margaret Mitchell’s Gone with the Wind: A Bestseller’s Odyssey from Atlanta to Hollywood — a darn good read! … even for those of us who haven’t quite yet gotten around to reading Mitchell’s book. And for another bit of curio: a 2008 poll showed Gone with the Wind second to the Bible in a list of Americans’ favorite books. Hearing Ellen talk about GWTW, Mitchell’s process of writing, and the book’s reception including that bugger for me, racism, made me think that I just might have to move it up on my reading list. In summertime, no reading list is too long!~
